Community Governance Review

Lichfield District Council is undertaking a review of community governance arrangements looking at current and future parish level provision across Lichfield District.

As part of the review, the council has launched a consultation open to all parish councils, residents, businesses, community groups and other stakeholders.

As a key consultee, we would like to invite Shenstone Council to submit its views.

The Review can consider one or more of the following options:

  • creating, merging, altering or abolishing parishes
  • the naming of parishes and the style of new parishes and the creation of town councils
  • the electoral arrangements for parishes (for instance, the ordinary year of election; council size; the number of councillors to be elected to the council, and parish warding)
  • grouping parishes under a common parish council or de-grouping parishes
  • other types of local arrangements, including parish meetings

Full Details can be found on the Council’s website: https://www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/custom/consultations/view/51

Submissions can be submitted online at: https://www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/xfp/form/301

PRESS RELEASE

Community Governance Review gets underway.
Local opinions sought on parish arrangements in Lichfield District.

Lichfield District Council has launched a review of community governance arrangements looking at current and future parish level provision across Lichfield District.

As part of the review, the council has launched a consultation open to all residents, businesses, community groups and parish councils to share their views.

The online consultation is available via the Lichfield District Council Website

Councillor Angela Lax, Cabinet Member for Regulatory, Housing and Health said:

“Having effective community governance arrangements contributes significantly to improved local democracy, greater community engagement and better local service delivery.

“Community Governance Reviews such as the one we are undertaking are carried out every 10 to 15 years. They provide an opportunity to review parishes and make changes to local arrangements where they are needed.

“I would encourage anyone with an interest in local democracy or in their local community to take a look at the details of the review and put forward their views on whether they think arrangements could be improved”.

The initial consultation period for the review runs from 1 February to 25 April 2022 with input invited from residents and any other interested parties from Lichfield District.

The results of the initial consultation will used by Lichfield District Council to draw up recommendations for any new or revised arrangements for community governance that will be consulted on later in the year.
