Shenstone Seniors Brunch club is a Registered non profit making community organisation.
We have been successfully running for 2 years in July. And this month, both the Wesley Hall and my home kitchen have just received another 5 star rating from the Food Standards Agency.
We open once a month 10am to 12pm in the Wesley Hall and over the last two years we have acquired around 70 “members”, some of whom come every month without fail. On an average service we have around 50 attendees and most of them stay for the full 2 hour session – eating and chatting and making new friends.
We serve Bacon or Sausage Baps with grilled tomatoes. Pancakes with home made Cherry compote. Breakfast pastries baked on the day, plus Tea & Coffee and Orange juice, all at affordable price.
I also make at home cakes, pastries, puddings, and savoury items which our members can purchase as individual sized treats to take home, many of them leaving with 4/5 items in a bag. Typically, the cake stall is sold out within 45 minutes of our opening time.
All of this would not have been possible without the support and dedication of the Brunch Team. After our service we all sit down with a Bacon or Sausage Bap and a drink, and share any feedback and highlights of the day.
The service is full-on from 10.0 am when we start our service. We usually have a long queue waiting to place there orders from the start.
Myself and the team are delighted that our “Brunch Club” has turned out to be so popular with so many of Shenstone’s senior residents and we are particularly pleased that so many men now come along to get food like their wives used to make for them.
The dishwasher grant from the parish council secured the continuation of the club. This item was a specified requirement by the FSA, because we are cooking high risk food and cross contamination could occur when items are washed by hand. We must also Thank Rigid Kitchens for the removal of cupboards and for plumbing in the dishwasher free of charge.
I have no doubt that our club will continue to thrive and grow for a long time to come, however we recognise that without the financial help and support from the parish council, none of this could have happened.
Thank you.
