As Chair of the Management Committee for Stonnall Village Hall, I am here to thank Shenstone Parish Council for their continued support.
The hall which originally opened as the Village Institute in 1926 and was built to accommodate the Women’s Institute and Stonnall community events. Sadly the W.I. folded last year through lack of members, but the hall having been rebuilt in the 1960’s continues to thrive.
Over the last 2 and a half years, the committee have spent nearly £40,000 refurbishing the hall and bringing it into the 21st century. Fortunately, a fair proportion of the cost has been covered by grant funding, for which we appreciate Shenstone Parish Council covering the cost to replace the old dusty nets and curtains with smart new blinds.
Lottery funding covered the cost of replacing all the lighting with LED lights and in the main hall we have smart new storage cupboards and internal doors. Sometime in the near future, we need to refurbish the main hall floor, and we are also considering solar panels on the roof.
However, it is not only the funding required for these projects but also the willingness of the committee to undertake this workload.
